Technology

We place great emphasis on developing a cutting-edge infrastructure that can support the convergence of broadcasting and design, and support high-end computer-based design. We encourage our students to view technology as a tool and as a medium. We support them to use technology to:

• acquire skills in communication, presentation, and personal organisation – to prepare for work in a global digital environment
• aid team working, work in cross-disciplinary teams – where specialist skills are essential, and to share in group problem solving
• acquire ‘information-seeking skills’ – the ability to use electronic search tools as a comprehensive resource, and to evaluate the results critically
• cross traditional boundaries of discipline, technology, and country
• solve problems holistically – and to take risks.

ICT Support

ICT supports learning and teaching, managing and developing the technical infrastructure, network

and software, data and multimedia services. Our ICT Service Helpdesk provides support and advice to students in accessing the various ICT services available. Our building is fully optimised for personalized mobile learning. We provide access to the Internet via 1Gb/s connection to Super JANET, the UK academic network.

Access to Learning and Study support is also delivered through the LRC: if you need help with Essay Writing, English as a Second or Other Language, or specific help on Dissertation writing, the LRC is the place to go.

Laptop Requirement

All students are required to own or have access to a laptop from the beginning of their studies.

Laptops are an essential tool to support personalised learning and give you access, when and where you want it, to many of the creative tools and educational resources you will encounter during your studies.

Laptops are used extensively in all of our courses. You will need one to access our network, and to research, communicate and collaborate during your studies.

Assistance in buying a laptop

You may be eligible for financial support in purchasing a laptop depending on the course you are on and your personal circumstances. Before enrolment, you will receive detailed information on the various laptop bursaries available and how you can access academic discounts for the purchase of a laptop and course-related software.

On induction, we will advise you on appropriate laptop specifications to ensure you make the most of what Ravensbourne has to offer.

Minimum laptop specification

Your laptop must be of a suitable specification for use on your course. Once you join the Colleges we will be able to induction together with information on how you can access the academic discounts negotiated by the College on the purchase of a laptop and software.
