4 GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent (preferably including English, Media/Technology), and at least one of the following or equivalent UK or international qualification: 1 A Level (A-C); 2 AS Levels (A-C); Level 3 Foundation Diploma or National Diploma; Progression Diploma (A-C) or International Baccalaureate (24 points or above). BA (Hons) Production is a one year top-up degree which is responsive to the industry’s need for graduates who understand the professional, technological and social needs of the broadcast production industry.

You will hone your understanding in the skills behind producing studio and location programmes, and how production fits into broadcasting.

Ravensbourne is renowned for its provision of broadcasting programmes that relate directly to what is happening within the industry. You will follow a learning pathway that relates to your previous studies and develops the professional skills and contextual knowledge necessary to enter a range of roles within production.

The course is practically focused which means you will develop hands-on technical skills, which you have acquired during your previous studies, to a more advanced and professional level. You employability will be further enhanced through enterprise and innovation units, and ongoing guidance from a personal and professional development tutors.

Level 3

Core topics include: professional skills for production; advanced skills for production; Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, Personal and Professional Development and Contextual Studies.

Assessment

You will be assessed through the completion of practical and written work including essays, analysis, individual and group presentations, a dissertation, technical tests and the production of artefacts such as programmes.

Learning and Support

Your learning will be focused on tutorials, practical exercises and projects guided by teaching staff and external broadcasting professionals. You have access to a wide range of support from your tutors and Ravensbourne staff to help with studies, work placements and the first steps in your production career.

Career Opportunities

BA (Hons) Production graduates can expect to find employment in a wide range of broadcast organisations, post production houses and related communication industries. Typical job titles include: camera operations, editing assistants, production assistants, transmission operators, vision mixers and VTR operators.

Progression

Successful completion of this course can lead to the postgraduate degree, MA/MSc Broadcast Futures.
