This one year top-up degree enables you to acquire the technical knowledge and professional skills necessary to enter the broadcasting industry at graduate level. You will focus on one of four specialist broadcasting areas: Audio, Computing, Systems or Outside Broadcast.

Designed primarily as a progression route from our range of broadcasting Foundation Degrees, or equivalent courses, this top-up offers you the opportunity to develop practical skills into professional skills in your particular broadcasting specialism. Your units and engineering project will be distinctive and focused on your chosen career path.

Broadcasting professionals rarely work in isolation, so you will work alongside students from related courses in a multidisciplinary environment, learning about managing both people and projects.

Upon graduation, you will be able to show an in-depth knowledge of your specialist broadcast area, plus have transferable skills in technological and theoretical concepts, research and analysis, problem solving and collaboration. You will be an engineer who can design and support equipment and systems used in your area of the broadcasting profession.

Level 3

Drawing on the practical skills learned in your Foundation Degree, or equivalent studies, you will focus on honing professional skills suitable for a graduate career in the broadcasting industry. Core topics will include: Media Compression; an Engineering Project in your specialism alongside Enterprise and Entrepreneurship; Personal and Professional Development, and Contextual Studies (Dissertation). You will also choose a unit from one of the specialist areas: Audio (Communications and Acoustics); Computing (Computing and Networks); Systems (Communications and Networks) or Outside Broadcast (Communications and Links).

Assessment

You will be assessed through the completion of practical and written work including essays, analysis, individual and group presentations, critical self and peer-evaluation, practical and technical tests, and the completion of individual and team projects.

Learning and Support

You will continue to have access to people, facilities and resources that will help develop you professionally.

Your learning will be focused on tutorials, practical exercises and projects guided by teaching staff and external broadcasting professionals.

Career Opportunities

BSc (Hons) Broadcast Technology graduates can expect to find employment opportunities in a wide range of broadcast organisations, facilities houses and related communication industries.

Whilst graduates may enter industry at a similar level to foundation degree graduates, they are more likely to quickly reach decision-making roles with greater responsibility, faster career progression and rewards.

Progression

Successful graduates of this course can continue their study and apply for the postgraduate course in MA/MSc Broadcast Futures.
