MA Visual Effects is developed in collaboration with major London post production houses to address the industry need for mature, innovative motion creative/design specialists. You are likely to have previously studied editing, postproduction, motion graphics or 3D animation at undergraduate level. Although the emphasis is on visual effects as opposed to special effects, you have the opportunity to visit the special effects studio of one of our many industry partners.

A visual effects designer needs to be at ease on all current digital platforms and to understand the capabilities of compositing software and how this can be combined with live action, 3D, specially shot effects such as fire, smoke and lasers, and the use of blue screen shooting. Additional skills include shooting backgrounds and directing people as well as model shooting. MA Visual Effects students will benefit from our high-end specialist broadcast facilities.

You will have the opportunity to develop your understanding of the research process and to develop tools for understanding business models, used by clients and employers. The opportunity to engage in experimentation and to accrue an impressive portfolio over the MA year will be of benefit when starting a career in the visual effects industry.
