Fashion student wins Burberry prize

Level 3 BA (Hons) Fashion Womenswear student Anna Rosevear won a £2,000 cash prize and a 3 month internship with Burberry after impressing judges with her casual outerwear designs.

The national competition, run by the British Fashion Council in association with Burberry, centered around war artist William Orpen as inspiration for a collection of coats or bags.

Anna entered the competition as part of her course, tackling the brief by researching Orpen and the wartime period of history. “I wanted to reflect the chaos and noise of war, and how we experience modern chaos in city life. I wanted to create garments that combat that sense of chaos,” says Anna. “I looked at imagery around Orpen, and found paintings and sketches that captured that mood.”

Anna was at a fabric fair in Paris when she heard the good news. “I immediately bought some really nice leather for my final collection to celebrate! My prize money is all going towards my final collection. Doing this brief has definitely influenced my style – the quality, fabrics and finishing of Burberry’s style is just as important as their wearability, which I always try to implement in my own work.”
