The Ravensbourne MDes is a new interdisciplinary degree programme built around Design Thinking as a methodology for creatively resolving practical problems and thereby seeking an improved future result. The programme has three differentiated but related pathways:

  • MDes Design Management * (from October 2011)
  • MDes Service Design * (from October 2012)
  • MDes Luxury Brand Management * (from October 2012)

The programme has been developed in response to specific demands from industry for ‘T-shaped’ creative professionals with specialist technical design skills and an advanced understanding of business and management, and also for managers from business to develop knowledge and skills in the strategic use of design so that they can apply this to their professional practice.

The Focus

The programme will enable you to develop skills in applying creative strategies and holistic thinking to solve a range of organisational and social problems. You will learn to navigate global current affairs, identify problem areas, and situate the role of design in developing innovative solutions for economic growth, social improvement and cultural renewal.

Our Approach

This interdisciplinary programme combines design education with business school methods. You will be encouraged to think both laterally and analytically. The programme also adopts an international perspective: through the use of a variety of globally-focused case studies you will broaden your perspectives and increase your knowledge and understanding of design and business issues. The contextual knowledge, practical skills and intellectual capability gained on the programme will open up your thinking about future career opportunities and enable you successfully to embark on a leadership career.
