HARVEY GOLDSMITH CBE AWARDED HONORARY FELLOWSHIP
In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the institution’s music education, Harvey Goldsmith CBE was yesterday awarded an Honorary Fellowship from Ravensbourne, the university sector college innovating in digital media and design.

Harvey Goldsmith’s connection with Ravensbourne started when he produced the Led Zeppelin reunion concert at The O2 in 2007. Proceeds from that concert went to The Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, a charitable trust set up in memory of Ahmet Ertegun, Founder of Atlantic Records. An award from this trust enabled Ravensbourne to launch a new BA honours degree in music production for media, with a number of funded scholarships for exceptional students.
Ravensbourne also received funding through the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund to install a state of the art audio recording studio at their new campus at Greenwich Peninsula, next door to the British Music Experience of which Harvey Goldsmith CBE is Chairman. His work combining both the contextual history and industry links of the British Music Experience combined with the resources available at Ravensbourne has provided students, staff and visitors to the museum with an unrivalled experience.
Paul Lilley, curator of the British Music Experience said:
“We are delighted for Harvey. This is fully deserved, his work with both Ravensbourne and the British Music Experience has been and will continue to be an important part of British music.”
In awarding the Honorary Fellowship at their annual Convocation Ceremony, Ravensbourne’s Director Professor Robin Baker OBE said:
“An Honorary Fellowship is an award we offer to outstanding individuals who have made a real difference to the success of Ravensbourne. Harvey’s support, in helping fund and set up a new music degree, scholarships and audio recording facilities, together with his professional expertise and guidance, has created exciting new opportunities for our students, present and future.”
In receiving his award Harvey Goldsmith CBE said:

“I feel very proud to be in receipt of this Honorary Fellowship, as it marks a strong relationship with Ravensbourne, one which I am very keen to continue.
The Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund wanted to support a course related to music in the UK, and Ravensbourne staff are to be congratulated for setting up this exciting new degree and scholarship, which nurtures highly talented students and provides them with the skills and commercial acumen to succeed in the age of digital music production and distribution.”
Notes to editors:
Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund donated £260K to Ravensbourne to deliver state-of-the art music and sound recording facilities, together with three music scholarships that provide up to 90% of the course fees for the three successful applicants for a new BA (Hons) Music Production for Media degree.
Ravensbourne launched the BA (Hons) Music Production for Media degree in October 2010 creating opportunities for those aiming to start careers as musicians and composers in film, TV, video games or interactive media, and show them how to license and market their work in order to keep ahead in a rapidly changing industry.
At Ravensbourne’s new location at Greenwich Peninsula, music production students benefit from industry professional teaching staff and the latest digital technology, media studios and post-production suites. The BA (Hons) Music Production for Media is a practical course and students collaborate with sound designers, filmmakers, games programmers and directors from other courses, colleges and industry.
Ravensbourne and the British Music Experience are working together to explore mutually beneficial opportunities for students, sharing both skills and facilities.
