Ravensbourne founding partner in National Virtual Incubator

Prime Minister David Cameron hailed the launch of the Cisco National Virtual Incubator (NVI) for small businesses when he visited Silicon Roundabout 10 November to mark the first anniversary of Tech City.

Ravensbourne is founding partner in the Cisco NVI together with Greenwich Council and Birmingham Science Park Aston.

The ‘National Virtual Incubator’ network will connect research centres, higher education establishments and science parks over the academic JANET network, beginning with founding partners Ravensbourne, Greenwich Council and Birmingham Science Park Aston. A further 12 nodes will be added over the coming year and Cisco aims to connect 100, including advanced videoconferencing facilities by 2016. The Prime Minister highlighted the project as an example of the Government’s bid to focus more economic growth on high-tech innovation.

The NVI is part of network company Cisco’s investment of $500m over the next five years, and will provide what the firm calls “a public technology network which promises to stimulate entrepreneurship by connecting physical sites through IT infrastructure”.
