Ravensbourne architecture students win industry awards

Ravensbourne architecture and design students recently won a number of awards at an event which took place at the Old Truman Brewery in East London in July.

Chris Hall won the Gensler Award for Best Interior Architecture at the Awards IDEA’s (Institute of Design and Environmental Architecture) event which took place as part of the annual design and art exhibition FreeRange, which presents the work of hundreds of new creative graduates. The award was £500, which was spilt between the student and the department.

Robert Elston, Max Kidd and Jim Siederer, meanwhile, were all commended for the award and will be interviewed for internships with top architectural firms.

Chris Hall also won joint second best project at FreeRange while Flora Loebl received an internship award.

In addition, Jim Siederer recently won the Best Architecture Project at the RIBA South East London Society of Architects Awards.  Fellow students Ko Han Yu, Luke Henry Powell and Hannah Flowers also received special commendations.

And it’s not just the students that are receiving industry accolades in Ravensbourne’s architecture and design department. A British design and architecture research-based practice called Desitecture, headed up by Layton Reid, Subject Leader of the BA Interior Design Environment Architectures and BA Architecture courses, was recently shortlisted for best experimental architect in the future projects category at the World Architecture Festival 2012 Singapore.

Desitecture have previously been shortlisted alongside august, large international practices including Zaha Hadid, Foster and Partners, Daniel Liebeskind and Renzo Piano.
