An event organised by social design business and community Enabled by Design will take place at Ravensbourne in November.
Enabled by Design-athon will bring together designers, hackers and manufacturers with the Enabled by Design community of assistive product aficionados for the two-day event.
At the event, teams will design and build prototypes that demonstrate how products can rapidly be designed and built personalising products to better fit with people’s lives and their needs. Modern manufacturing software and tools such as CNC machines, 3D printers and laser cutters as well as rough and ready prototyping with card, foam, scissors, and sugru will be used.
Denise Stephens, Founder at Enabled by Design said: “Enabled by Design is passionate about design for all, although one design can never be truly accessible to everyone. We are interested in exploring how new technologies such as 3D printing can help to mainstream accessibility, as well as support independent living through customisation“
The design-athon is supported by IDEO, the Technology Strategy Board, sugru, FutureGov as well as Ravensbourne.
The event takes place 2 – 3 November 2012.
