Watch this short video to find out why Ravensbourne made the decision to move from its original location in Chislehurst to Greenwich Peninsula.
Ravensbourne is a world-class digital destination developing talented individuals and leading-edge businesses through learning, skills, applied research, enterprise and innovation. We are a university sector college innovating in digital media and design, with a vocationally focused portfolio of courses, spanning fashion, television and broadcasting, interactive product design, architecture and environment design, graphic design, animation, moving image, music production for media and sound design. We are a centre of excellence, industry accredited, and a Skillset Media Academy.
We’re driven by the creative use of digital technologies and determined to help shape the future, not simply to be shaped by it. The traditional disciplines of design, media, innovation and communications are merging, with open-source, digitally-driven methods driving design and digital media. We explore this technology from a human perspective, shaping it to the real needs of real people. At every level our learners are required to collaborate and innovate; to think beyond the conventions of their specialisms and be genuinely creative in the pursuit of design and communications solutions. We’re so closely integrated with industry, so enterprise and entrepreneurship are hardwired in. Your professional career starts on your first day at Ravensbourne, not your last.
We attract some of the most innovative and diverse minds in design, media and technology. Many of these come from across the world, but we’re just as keen to find the creators of the future right on our doorstep. Through our industry links and a dedicated research and enterprise centre, we champion the role of the knowledge economy in creative businesses. Our young professionals emerge equipped with the skills and commercial acumen to launch successful careers and businesses of their own. We also foster new collaborations, and help organisations develop their digital skills. We run a creative business incubation programme, using our research and enterprise with converging technologies to support developing design and media companies. As a design ‘laboratory’, we provide a space for industrial future planning and prototyping, and play a key role in the innovation of London’s digital technology industries.
Many prestigious industry awards are won by our young professionals – from organisations including the Royal Society of Arts, D&AD (Design and Art Direction), Promax, Graduate Fashion Week, New Designers, the Audi Design Foundation, and Brantano. Our student degree shows, including broadcasting event Rave Live, are admired and attended by industry leaders. We have global aspirations and connections – part of a national and international network of innovators, partnering with major multi-national brands like Samsung, Microsoft and MTV. And our alumni include many industry world names. We have strong links with a number of education institutions in our target markets in China, India, Japan, Korea and Hong Kong. Ten percent of our students are international, with a high proportion of postgraduates attracted by our significant investment in digital technology and our professional relevance. We also participate in global competitions, live projects and student exchanges with the Pearl Academy in India and the Renaissance Academy of Design in Japan.
