What is a Camera Operator?

In a nutshell, you operate one of many cameras to capture simultaneous images, either on an outdoor shoot or in the studio. Normally you start out as a camera assistant, supporting senior members of the camera crew. You can then progress to more senior roles, such as camera operator and eventually camera supervisor.

What will I be doing?

  • overseeing the camera set-up
  • studying scripts and preparing for shooting
  • working under the guidance of the director when shooting
  • interest in the technical aspects of photography.
