    This course allows you to explore the creative mediums and techniques through which fashion is conveyed in this fast moving and dynamic industry.

    The course enables you to explore creative professional practice, technological knowledge and theoretical understanding in preparation for a variety of careers in the area of fashion. You will explore communication, branding, graphics, art direction and advertising and promotion campaigns whilst developing a thorough knowledge of key software packages.

    The annual degree show allows you the opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration with other departments, such as graphic design, motion graphics, animation and digital film production, to develop an understanding of how the digital age is driving fashion promotion forward.

    Assessment

    You will be continually assessed through preparation of written and project work. Assessment in the final year is through dissertation and portfolio.

    Career prospects

    Graduates will be well prepared to pursue a wide range of roles in fashion promotion including in fashion journalism, graphic design, art direction, advertising and promotion, fashion event production, fashion photography and marketing.

    You will study: contextual studies: theory and context; opportunities, trends and ideas; professional context; communication and visualisation; fashion retail and public relations; typography; time-based narrative, and fashion styling for the media.

    Level 2 of the course has a strong industrial focus and is outward facing.
    Your industrial understanding is enhanced by live external projects set and monitored by the industry that simulate a realistic professional situation and through vocational case studies.

    You will study: contextual studies: debate and polemic; contextual studies: dissertation preparation; marketing strategy; advertising and promotions; creative fashion marketing; promotional campaigns, and an industrial placement.

    At level 3, you will develop independent lines of enquiry and build on the practical and theoretical elements at levels 1 and 2.

    You will study: contextual studies: dissertation; enterprise and entrepreneurship – making it happen; major project report; final major project formulation; location and studio; final major project realisation, and portfolio.

    Entry requirements

    Students will normally be expected to possess five GCSEs (grade C or above) or equivalent (including English and Mathematics) and also to hold at least one of the following or equivalent UK or international qualification:
  • 2 A levels, grade C or above
  • 4 AS levels, grade C or above
  • 2 vocational A level, grade C or above
  • Level 3 Foundation Diploma or National Diploma
  • Advanced Diploma, grade C or above
  • International Baccalaureate, 28 points or above
