Pre-Foundation Diploma in Art and Design

If you have just completed your GCSEs or AS Levels and are looking to focus on digital media and design, the Pre-Foundation Diploma in Art and Design could be your next move.

The course is equivalent to two A levels* and is perfect if you are looking for an alternative to AS or A2 study.

The advantage of joining Ravensbourne at this stage is that you will be studying in a university-sector college environment that offers excellent specialist facilities. To give you a flavour of what is on offer, we have 3D design workshops, fashion studios and a purpose-built HD television studio.

On successful completion, you will have a number of internal and external progression opportunities:

• continuing with Ravensbourne and studying the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design – guaranteed entry if recommended by the subject leader for further education.
• continuing with Ravensbourne and studying a Bachelors degree.

* Subject to final grades, this course is the equivalent to two A levels.

Stage 1

This contains compulsory units and covers:

• drawing
• visual communication
• using digital design IT packages

Stage 2

Introduces you to specialist areas within the design and communication fields, including:

• fashion and textiles
• 3D design
• graphic design
• animation, photography and motion graphic design
• broadcasting and film disciplines.

The course ends with a final major study that can be based on one of any of the areas covered in Stages 1 and 2.
